Boo by Rene Gutteridge

I read Boo by Rene Gutteridge on the recommendation of a good, reading friend. I was not disappointed. Yikes, this was one of those airplane reads, so I’m quite behind on reviews — for me, this is very behind.

Boo is set in the small town of Skary, Indiana, which was near dead before the renowned horror novelist Wolfe Boone (called Boo by the locals) made the ville his home. Now, the town’s economy is steady, even thriving, because it’s adapted to its status as a tourist town — practically everything has been renamed: The Haunted Mansion restaurant famous for its “bloody fingers” (fries splattered with ketchup) is just one example.

Against this backdrop, the reader meets a newly reformed (and out of the horror-writing business) Boone who sets his sights on the city’s favorite daughter.

I laughed and laughed at this book. Part of that was because I was surprised by the audacity Gutteridge demonstrated by using so many cheesy puns. But I think it works. A fun, quick read.

As soon as I finished this book, I added another Gutteridge series to my wishlist.
